"The party of brave Heroes has reached the master of the dark castle;
the nefarious Boss. Now the fate of the world will be decided by one decisive battle."

Boss Fight is an all-against-one card battler, where you fight either as one of the heroic party members or as the titular Boss. Build personal decks based on alignment and fight in a battle between light and darkness!

Good vs Evil

The two opposing forces build their characters from two wildly different decks.
The Heroes gets loads of tools to support each other to overcome the odds. The Boss relies on debilitating effects, traps and raw power to crush the pesky Heroes.

1, 2, 3, REVEAL!

Boss Fight keeps the players engaged with a snappy game play loop sprinkled with chewy decisions.

Everyone chooses their secret actions simultaneously, then reveals them to see who's getting closer to victory.

Customize, or Jump Right In!

Build personal decks by picking perks and action cards, or get even swifter by choosing a suggested deck list.
Perfect for newcomers!

100+ Unique Illustrations

Boss Fight is a labor of love, and is therefore 100% created by my own hands. No AI has been used in any of the cards elements- I've drawn the graphic elements from scratch!

The First Cards
These post-its are all from the initial brainstorming session where the groundwork was laid out.
First Prototype (Pen for scale)
These ridiculously small cards were almost impossible to play with. Yet, I managed to play a game during a lunch break with my non-gamer colleagues, which was a clear sign that I had something special.
First Sketch of the Boss
When I created the characters for Boss Fight, I didn't want to stray too far from conventions. A dark knight with a sword can easily be a half-dragon, a tyrant, or a spectre. I want you to fill in the blanks with your imagination.
First Illustration Sketch
Lunch breaks are the perfect time to let your mind wander, and mine often wandered to Boss Fight. This was my first scribble of a card that is still present in the game!
First Card Layout
While a lot has happened since this first draft of the playing cards, the fundamental design remains the same! (Also, during the first year, all cards were in Swedish.)

A wish to bring people together

Why I'm Making Boss Fight!

My name is Joakim. I’m a long-time video game nerd and work in TV production for a living. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved all kinds of games. I also enjoyed drawing cartoons and creating my own games. If I dig through my old stuff, I can even find early attempts at turning my favorite video games into board games.

One random evening in 2018, I thought it would be cool to have a tabletop experience similar to the boss fights in games like Final Fantasy or Octopath Traveler. The turn-based rounds translate perfectly to the table! I started on the spot, using post-its for my very first prototypes.

Since then, I’ve worked on this game whenever I can. Drawing has always been a passion, so I decided to illustrate it myself—I hope you like it. Along the way, I’ve connected with loads of other board game designers around the world and joined an expansive, supportive community where people genuinely help each other out.

My dream with Boss Fight is to create an experience that people can share at the same table, just like we used to share video games from one couch. I want to entice both board gamers and video gamers looking to broaden their horizons. My goal is to offer a fun, exciting game with enough depth to keep it interesting, yet simple enough to introduce to new players.

Thank you for being here, and I hope you enjoy Boss Fight as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it!

Best Regards
/ Joakim
